Each day when we awake,
With the coming of daylight;
May our eyes open to the beauty,
Unwrapping the gift of life.

A gift given to us from God,
A special gift given to no other;
Its contents yet unknown,
Like any gift one to another.

We may never understand its value,
Or whether to say thank-you or why;
But we do know where it comes from,
And that it is one of a kind.

This is our gift for today,
Very different than tomorrows;
It may bring peace, it may bring joys,
Or hardships, challenges, or sorrows.

Dear Lord, help me to open this gift,
With child like anticipation;
Even playing with the box,
When accepting the contents with trepidation.

Please give me strength to cherish each day,
Your generosity is beyond comprehension;
For if I open my eyes to see what's there,
The brightness is blinding, the darkness a lesson.

Yes, life's a gift,
To me from You;
To share with those around me,
Just as You did too.
