As you can probably see from the above, I spent most of my life as a
scientist who regarded computers as "black boxes" to aid my
calculating ability. Only recently have I moved into more serious
computer-orientated work.
The first time I encountered the concept of a database was on an
Equinox computer using Dataflex. I created my own architecture and wrote
all the code for a database system that ran my company's accounts, job
sheets, and billing, and daily work from about - hmm, 1982? to 1994-odd.

Decided to supplement income after early retirement by freelance web
programming, cashing in on the skills learnt over the past five years as a
hobby. I have helped to develop an HTML and Perl based logging
system for Southern Power, in the USA, working with a friend in Alabama. I have
studied Java and can write both free-standing Java code for mainframes
and Applets for the www. I have also obtained Frontpage and have
taught myself how to use it by creating or re-vamping a websites in my own time.
